For me this makes Darkest Dungeon lean harder into the party tactics aspect, rather than letting me have a few super soldiers leading the soft.Īlso. They are DAMN handy! Other than them I keep a good mix of back and front row and I try not to create characters who can only hit 1 or 2 positions unless I have to. There's a class that has an ability to clear all corpses and a few classes with re-positioning abilities. It makes me take a harder look at my party management / class mix. I don't want this to sound like I'm just defending everything in the game, but I was surprised by this system because at first I was scared by it but then came to appreciate it. What don't you like about festering corpses duder? lol. The first versions of the game were much too easy after a couple hours. Otherwise the additions have only been positive. The only thing that bothers me is the corpse thing because I find that limits one of the interesting parts of the game with the positioning system. You just can't cheat the system as much, and have to come to terms with the better part of valor on occasion. If you like the amazing presentation via art style, narrator and music, all of these things are still there.

Also reinforcements show up if you stick around too long using this "tactic." I recognize that there can be a fuzzy line between sick vidja game strats and exploiting game mechanics, but pretty much every change that people are complaining about is to address the latter.Īlso they added difficulty options, like to remove the much maligned "corpse clutter" from the fights, so there's really no need to worry about that. So, for example, changes were implemented to remove most of the benefits from keeping 1 weak creature alive in a fight just to keep healing up your characters while taking minimal or no damage from the remaining enemy. While there are some game mechanics I find somewhat puzzling, this is how the game system was designed. Most of the changes revolve around exploits some of the player base had found to circumvent the intended difficulty, ergo that segment of the player base feels betrayed by the developers. All the things that make it great are still there, just with far fewer exploits to artificially lower the difficulty.
